One of the most beautiful sights in Larnaca especially in the evening when the monument is illumiated in a rather unique way. This is the well known old Larnaca Aquaduct, which in the past was used to carry water and was believed to be the most prominent water supply ever created on the island.
The Aqueduct was is said to be built around 1747-1750 by the Ottoman Governor of Larnaca, Pasha and was in operation up until 1939. The construction consists 75 arches. The Greek word Kamares means arches in English, hence the arches around the Aqueduct received its name from the shape of the particular monument.
Being just a five minute drive to the Centre of Larnaca the area of Kamares is popular with permanent residents.
